What is Vínarterta ?

Our Vínarterta is a distinctively different (and yummy) striped cake handmade with seven thin fragrant vanilla sugar cookies thickly filled with cardamom flavoured dried plums, then iced with pure vanilla and almond flavoured buttercream. That’s 14 ‘oh so good’ layers of all natural ingredients.

Já, yes, it’s unconditional love! Pure Icelandic Extract is the one essential, not-so-secret ingredient infused into this great family recipe that makes this cake irresistible. Add to that a bit of pioneering spirit and it’s who we are, and when we share it, we’re home.

What makes it so Delicious, and Distinctively Different?

Our cake is true to the virtues of Amma’s Riverton, Manitoba family recipe brought from Iceland in 1876. Vínarterta has been connecting and nourishing the bodies, hearts and minds of people of Icelandic descent in a multilayered way for generations. It’s healthy, all natural, wonderfully straightforward and unique, enduring and yet rebellious. Just like us!

When is a good time for Vínarterta?

It’s so delicious that almost anytime of day or year is a good time for this yummy cake. We love it.....at kaffitimi coffee time, or for dessert with family and friends. Special times are even more special when this cake is served at
Christmas (á jólum), Birthdays and Anniversaries (í afmælisveislu), and Weddings (í brúðkaupsveislu).
